I had a good four days last week where I remembered to exercise each morning. When the twins first wake up they have a bottle and after that are usually ready to play for a while before breakfast. During that playtime I can work in about 15 minutes of exercise. But on the fifth day I forgot to exercise and I felt noticeably worse. I was more tired and achy. Then I forgot to do it the next day, and the next. My on track is officially off track.

I have no doubt that exercise will improve my RA symptoms and that the morning is the right time to do it. Unfortunately the kids are back in school now and that only adds to the list of morning activities to fit in. So it's back to the drawing board.

I also exercise and I find that it does help alleviate some of the pain and fatigue.

It can be frustrating trying to fit exercise into a hectic schedule. Good Luck.

I am curious what kind of exercise all of you with R/A do. Do you stretch first to warm up joints? Does anyone have any advice on what kind of exercise will be safe and effective when joints are swollen? Do you exercise through the pain? I love to go on walks, but it seems like it makes my feet even more swollen.
Any advice would be helpful. By the way, Arthritis Mom, I emailed you about meds vs. no meds, and you were so nice to write me back a long letter. I never responded, but it was much appreciated!
Thanks,
Jen

In the past I used to go to the gym to work out. I lifted weights but I stuck with small weights and didn't exercise any inflamed/swollen joints because I didn't want to damage or stress them further. I would walk on the treadmill but only if my feet weren't hurting at the time and I tried not to over do it.

Recently I've done more stretching exercises, leg lifts, crunches, and using small weights to exercise my arms. If I don't grip the weights too tightly it doesn't bother my hands much.
